He was simply observing that, to many, the Beatles were better known. He was deploring, rather than approving this. Sectors of the American public were given the wrong impression, and it was totally absurd."

Absurd is certainly a good word for it. I always love how the article was originally published in Britain and yet there was absolutely no fuss made about it over there. Leave it to us Americans.
